Unidienst was founded as a business information service (hence the name "Unidienst" - "Dienst" meaning service in German) in 1975 with the mission to develop innovative know-how in business and engineering but also in social sectors for its customers. It is self-explanatory that this information technology is indispensable as a tool to accomplishing this task. Resource planning and coordination work can only be guaranteed to be effective with an all-encompassing, modern information processing service.

As Unidienst began in 1978 to investigate suitable computer equipment for medium-sized companies, the personal computer, known as "microcomputer" in this time, was to inefficient. Both the operating system and the storage media could not fulfill the requirements. Because of this, mid-range systems were used, especially IBM System /34 with a then very good price / performance ratio.

Computer systems were used at that time, about 1979, mainly in the "classic" commercial areas, a circumstance which made it difficult to attract software developers for technical tasks. When it was necessary to find a suitable software for order-related, project-specific window manufacture, only providers with programs for basic and standard window customization could be found. From this point Unidienst started in 1980 itself with the program development.

That was the starting point for the now over 40-year-long effort to assist the customers with the optimal software solution in its business processes:
The computer business thus brought order and transparency into corporate operations - consistently, efficiently, and without additional human effort. The new, structured work resulted in the systematic implementation of a first step in "lean management".

THE SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS
For IBM/System/36, IBM System/38 and IBM AS/400, Unidienst has developed an integrated solution for the processing of orders, including the cost-calculation, order-entry, production planning and administration, purchasing, and the storage and dispatch logistics. Of elementary relevance was the possibility to carry out order-based manufacturing with varied and multi-dimensional products through the development of the 1996 product configurator, which is part of the UniPRO/400 sector solution. Ever since, Unidienst has offered software solutions for the seamless control of the operational sequences, including paperless manufacturing and the CNC controlling of manufacturing systems.

Since the standard-ERP solutions such as Microsoft Apertum did not satisfy these requirements, the know-how developed for PC-supported systems has been newly programmed. In the shape of Apertum, Microsoft provided one of the first .NET level solutions – a purely web-based software solution. For this purpose, in the shape of UniPRO/Apertum in the year 1996, Unidienst developed an ERP and PPS solution for the order-based manufacturing of complex products.

MICROSOFT PARTNER FOR MICROSOFT DYNAMICS CRM
When Microsoft decided to offer Business Solutions in the year 2000, one of the reasons was to demonstrate how .NET was setting new standards as a base technology: web-based and therefore hosting-capable solutions determined the future!

In 2002, Microsoft nominated Unidienst as one of its first European partners in establishing Microsoft CRM in the German-speaking nations and regions. Since December 2003, Microsoft has been offering its own solution for Customer Relationship Management. Unidienst has been its partner from the very start. The product configurator and the sector solution for financial services providers were the first solutions in Microsoft CRM to have been adapted especially to the customer requirements by Unidienst. Despite some initially hesitant relations between the companies, the high integration costs and the demand for hosting, Unidienst was one of the most successful solutions right from the start.

In the year 2006, Microsoft CRM was followed by Microsoft Dynamics CRM, demonstrating that in the context of Cloud Computing, web-capable solutions are an absolute must.

To pass on the experience we have gained in 40 years of software development through:

  • the implementation of the established sector solutions, the functional scope of which is continuously expanded due to innovations and adaptations during the current projects.
  • the use of Microsoft Dynamics CRM as a complete ERP system, with the customer benefiting from being able to carry out all of the business and production processes with a single software package.
